About Spring Jam

Celebrating the warm weather and the end of the school year, Spring Jam is the largest student-planned, campus-wide event during spring semester at the University of Minnesota. As part of the Minnesota Programs & Activities Council (MPAC), Spring Jam is planned by a student committee that organizes events throughout the week including live music performances, ballyhoo dance competitions, sport competitions, unique entertainment and a variety of other events. All students are encouraged to form teams and compete during ballyhoo, sport competitions and the student band competition!

The 2009 "Rockin' the Playground" theme takes us back to our childhood days. It brings the opportunity to reminisce what you did growing up: what your hobbies were, what music you listened to, what games you played and so on. Each participating team in Spring Jam is encouraged to integrate elements of their childhood into their competition. Examples include:

  • Boy Bands (ex. N' Sync, 98°, Sugar Ray)
  • Playground Games (ex. Hoola hoop, jump rope, four square, hacky sack)
  • Game Shows (ex. "Legends of the Hidden Temple", "Family Feud")
  • Movies (ex. "Billy Madison", "Jack", "Clueless")
  • Performers (ex. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mariah Carey, Blink-182)
  • Things Related to Being in School (ex. "School's Out", Jackson 5 "ABC")
