Recruitment
When going to college and looking for a fraternity to join it is difficult to choose one based on the Greek letters that appear on a house. I believe that a fraternity is defined by its members, and that is how each fraternity is different from one another. When people ask me "what makes Alpha Delta Phi different from the other houses on campus?" I respond "the people". Each fraternity on campus obviously has common interests. We are all college students and we enjoy being involved on campus.
To choose the house that best fits you I recommend exploring various houses on campus and familiarizing yourself with their members. By getting to know the members of different houses you not only increase your social networking, but you will find a place that you feel comfortable and that you fit in. Then show your dedication to the house and if they agree that you share similar qualities they will ask you to become a member.
For the upcoming fall semester I have established a $500.00 scholarship for incoming freshmen and would like to encourage everyone eligible to apply. Alpha Delta Phi has a literary focus so naturally this scholarship is composed of a short essay and then followed up with a interview at the chapter house. Through this process applicants get the opportunity to meet some of the members of our house and we are able to meet you. It is a great opportunity to be awarded with some extra money and become acquainted with some of the members of Alpha Delta Phi. As a supporter of Begreek I want to emphasize that winning our scholarship does not obligate you to join Alpha Delta Phi. We just want to offer you the opportunity to be part of something great.
If you are attending the University of Minnesota make sure to stop by University Avenue in early September or contact me this summer for more information and the opportunity to see the house and get to know some of the Brothers. I strongly encourage you to see all of the fraternities on campus and choose the one that best fits you, and at the end of your search I hope you affably return to Alpha Delta Phi. For more information regarding Greek life at the University of Minnesota check out http://begreek.org/, which contains many FAQs and information regarding general fraternity recruitment and events. So if you are interested in joining or would like any more information about our house or recruitment events feel free to contact me. My name is Jeremy Blackburn, the Recruitment chair for fall 2008.
